Dear Jeremy, My friends and I obsess about guys. We sit around and talk about them, “Did you see how hunky Luke looked today? I think he winked at me in Bio.” We analyze what they say to us. “Ricardo said, ‘I’ll see you later,’ after sixth period today. Do you think he wants to ask me to prom?” We dress for them. “I have to have those jeans, they make my butt look good. I want Dwayne to notice me when I walk across the quad.” So here’s my question. What do guys talk about? Are we wasting our time with all the talk, flirting and drama? Do guys ever talk about girls?

Dear Christina,

Yeah, guys talk about girls – quite a bit. But not exactly like girls. It has to be the right time and the right place and with only the right buddy. Guys don’t talk about girls with anyone. It’s too risky. They are more comfortable talking about sports or for a change of pace, they might talk about sports and when they are done, they might talk about video games, but sometimes they talk about girls.

It’s usually, “Dude, look at Tracy. She’s lookin’ fine!”

Yeah, guys talk about girls. Guys with some mileage and maturity might be able to bring up serious stuff with one or two close and proven friends – meaning guys who won’t yak about what they talk about, but keep it close to their chest.

But here’s the inside tip, guys aren’t thinking about what you said, or if you bought the right brand of jeans or not. They are mostly thinking, did she smile at me? Did I say or do something stupid? I wonder if my breath reeks? These are the deep ponderings of guys.
