Not So Smart

Dear Ally, I am in my senior year of high school and getting ready to apply for college. Everyone around me is all freaked out about SATs, GPA’s, and applications right now, it’s a really stressful environment. My group at school consists of lots of beautiful, athletic and intelligent girls, so it’s hard to not compare myself to them. I am not as smart as the rest of my Ivy League friends, and feel a little nervous about the arrival of college acceptance (or denial) letters. I have never done that well in school and am dreading four more years at a University. Everyone is so excited about college and I don’t want to be the loser friend who just starts working immediately after high school. How can I stop feeling so inadequate around my near-perfect friends, and what should I do about this whole college issue?

Sincerely,
Wendy

Is there an extreme makeover show for geeks?

Dear Ally-
I’m hopelessly a geek. The only time girls think of me is when they need help with their homework. Is there an extreme makeover show for geek guys? What can I do to help them see beyond my straight A’s and computer skills?

My girlfriend just wants to be friends.

Dear Ally, I went out with this girl for thirteen months. We’re both sixteen and we went to Christmas Formal, the Prom and the entire summer we were together. Ten days ago she dumped me. Says, “She just wants to be friends.”I’m devastated, embarrassed and can’t get over her. She’s awesome!Antonio

What if I'm not attracted to her?

Hey Ally, I have this friend, Becca and everyone is hasslin’ us, “Are you guys going out or what? Wazzup with you and her?” and it’s getting old. We have classes together and go to the same youth group at church, so I see her six out of seven. So here’s the deal - I like her, she’s easy to be with, laughs at my jokes, and fits in with my friends, and if you can believe this, fits in with my weird family. But here’s the catch – I’m not physically attracted to her. I’m not gay or anything, I just don’t drool all over her like other girls I see around. What should I do? We are both Juniors in high school.Connor

Should I swear off guys?

I can really pick ‘em! Seems like every guy (no exaggeration) I pick turns out to be a LOSER. Is there something wrong with me? I talk to my friends, but they don’t know, but they don’t seem to choose as lousy as I do. Should I join the convent and swear off guys?

Do guys ever talk about girls?

Dear Jeremy,
My friends and I obsess about guys. We sit around and talk about them, “Did you see how hunky Luke looked today? I think he winked at me in Bio.” We analyze what they say to us. “Ricardo said, ‘I’ll see you later,’ after sixth period today. Do you think he wants to ask me to prom?” We dress for them. “I have to have those jeans, they make my butt look good. I want Dwayne to notice me when I walk across the quad.”
So here’s my question. What do guys talk about? Are we wasting our time with all the talk, flirting and drama? Do guys ever talk about girls?
